I also noticed on here that someone recommended installing GNS3 on Ubuntu Server and then accessing it via a remote client such as Windows. I used windows as I had some issues getting it to work on Ubuntu. The GNS3 VM.ova is really easy: Import, configure RAMCores, then start. It will boot, start GNS3, and show you the DHCP IP address it received. I personally run Ubuntu server (bare metal) with GNS3-server installed to maximize RAM and CPU availability to GNS3, and connect to it via the client. I run a fair amount of VIRL images, so the more ram and cpu I can get out of my Dell 2950(iii) the better. If you want to run the whole thing on a workstation, then VMware Workstation and the GNS3 VM are HIGHLY encouraged (read necessary for VIRL images). Not long after my post I came across this YouTube video detailing a set up very similar to the one youve advised. Ive got it up and running now, with my GNS3 client on Win7 pointing to the GNS3 VM Ive installed in ESXi. The issue that I have now run into is in regards to getting Cisco ASA images working on GNS. All the videos and tutorials Ive so far come across seem to be for an older version of GNS3 (Qemu); when selecting New from Qemu VMs, I should see an option to select like a template, where Cisco ASA should be an option, but when I click New it takes me straight to name and going through the set up, there is no option to add my initrd.gz and vmlinuz files. ![]() Continue this thread View entire discussion ( 9 comments) More posts from the gns3 community Continue browsing in rgns3 rgns3 Welcome to gns3 1.6k Members 7 Online Created Aug 5, 2011 Join help Reddit App Reddit coins Reddit premium Reddit gifts about careers press advertise blog Terms Content policy Privacy policy Mod policy Reddit Inc 2020.
